Tim Fretheim kicks off our Same Passage 5 Ways series. For all of August we'll be looking at Ezekiel 37:1-14. We'll have 5 different preachers all preaching from this text. It's an exciting way to have God's Word opened up for us, and Tim set the stage with some important context and background, as well as the encouragement of hope that this passage in Ezekiel provides.
As we wrap up the Parables series, we look at a parable of prayer... focusing on the posture of humility that Jesus teaches as we head to God in prayer.
The majority of the sermon time this week was dedicated to recapping the Youth Conference from the previous week... CHIC, where 13 youth and leaders from Emmanuel and Green Timbers joined 5,700 other students from around the world to worship, to learn, to pray, to serve, to build relationships, and to have a whole lot of fun. One parable was read as well, the Parable of the Persistent Widow, which reminds us the importance of prayer, always.
While all parables are about discipleship to some degree, the Parable of the Two Builders has that as it's specific purpose. Jesus makes it clear that there is action required in following him.
After a week away, we continued in our Parables series... looking at 5 Parables of the Present Kingdom from Matthew. We looked at how Jesus gave glimpses of the Kingdom of Heaven to those he was teaching.
This second week of our Parables series we looked at the Parable of the Lost Sheep, and the Parable of the Lost Coin.
